Region’s biggest power plant costs $2.3 billion

Progress on construction of what will be Central America’s largest power plant is ahead of schedule. The hydroelectric plant, known as Reventazón, will likely be completed by the end of 2015. The state-owned Costa Rican electricity company, ICE, originally scheduled the work to be completed by summer of 2015.

Reventazón will have a 305-megawatt capacity, five megawatts more than El Cajón in Honduras and Fortuna in Panama. The projec is expected to cost $2.3 billion.
