Rivals leave Costa Rica in the lurch

Thursday, November 17, 2011

In 2006, the average Costa Rican earned on average more or less the same as his or her counterpart in Uruguay or Panama. Not any longer.

In only four years, the average Uruguayan is earning almost 30 percent more than the Costa Rican, while the Panamanian is earning more than 20 percent.

Uruguay and Panama are the two Latin American countries that are most like Costa Rica, in terms of population and economy. But their development has left Costa Rica in the lurch.
