Six in line for Panama Canal top job

Thursday, February 14, 2019

The head-hunters that have interviewed a score of possible candidates for the position of administrator of the Panama Canal have selected a shortlist of six candidates for what is arguably the nation's second most important post short of the presidency of the republic.

Of the six, the nation's leading newspapers have identified the three most likely: Ricaurte "Catín" Vásquez, a former deputy administrator of the Canal and ex-Finance minister; Julio Spiegel, executive president of Cable & Wireless: and Jorge García, ex-president of the Chamber of Commerce and a former vice-president of Copa Airlines.

Some sources say that an announcement might be made tomorrow.
