Solar generation restricted in Costa Rica

Friday, August 31, 2018

The limit on generation by means of solar energy in Costa Rica restricts growth of the technology in the country, despite its potential for other sources.

The law stipulates that the maximum capacity for generating systems cannot exceed 15 percent of demand, which means that solar energy's potential is limited.

The law permits no exceptions and it proved to be very popular in the last presidential election.
