Region's remittances could face slowdown says UN

Monday, September 24, 2018

As the US tightens its controls against immigration, this year remittances to Central America and the Caribbean are likely to be down from 2017, says the UN Economic Commission for Latin America.

"The total amount of remittances could be $28 billion that will be up from $26 billion in 2017 but it does mark a slowdown in growth," the commission says.

"According to the most recent figures, the slowdown could cause a drop of from 4 to 12 percent of the total," the study adds.
