Strike halts Colombia's largest refinery project

Friday, July 26, 2013

Construction work on Colombia’s Reficar refinery project near the coastal city of Cartagena has come to a halt.

The strike comes amid an intensifying labor dispute that has plagued the $6.4 billion venture with multiple setbacks.

The labor strike in the Reficar project is just the latest in Colombia’s fast-growing energy and mining sectors and part of a series of setbacks that has contributed to delays and billions in cost overruns on the project.
