Tax hikes dent Mexican leader's approval rating

Monday, December 2, 2013

A survey by Mexican newspapaer Reforma showed 48 percent of Mexicans disapproved of President Enrique Peña Nieto's performance, up from 30 percent in April this year.

The approval figure was down from 50 percent eight months ago and marked the first time since taking office last December that it had been below the disapproval percentage.

The main issues the respondents cited were Peña Nieto's tax reforms and his handling of organized crime.
