Textile industry fears rise in cotton prices

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

The price of cotton, the main raw material for the textile and garment industries has increased from 65 US cents a pound to $1.50.

The increase has pushed up costs and hence the prices of finished materials, say leaders of the textile industry in El Salvador.

They add that it will be hard for companies to absorb the increase, and export prices will have to be raised.
