The other Asian giant, India, aims for Honduras

Monday, September 3, 2018

While sectors of the Central American diplomatic community are buzzing with news about China's growing influence in the region, few have given India, the other Asian giant, much more than a cursory consideration.

This Friday, however, a delegation of Indian pharmaceutical companies are due to visit San Pedro Sula in a bid to establish business links. "These are companies that have world recognition," said an organizer of the event.

Few people in Central America know much about India, with its 1.3 billion population and average economic growth of 7 percent a year, and 15 percent in consumer goods.
