Tigo seeks to renew licence in El Salvador

Thursday, March 16, 2017

Tigo has sought to renew its network operating licence in El Salvador ahead of its expiry next year. The operator has opened talks with the government of El Salvador to discuss the license, which it has held for more than 25 years, according to reports in the country.

Tigo El Salvador currently holds two approved 45MHz licences, but both must be extended for a term of 20 years, according to current laws. The government has entered a series of talks with companies in the sector to discuss conditions around investment in the country, and the future of telecoms licences.
