Tourism to Nicaragua unaffected by quakes

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

At least 46,428 foreign tourists arrived in Nicaragua during the Easter holiday season despite red alerts due to a string of earthquakes earlier this month, Nicaraguan Tourism Institute president Mayra Salinas said.

Some 53,000 tourists were originally expected to arrive, but the week was atypical due to the seismic activity, Salinas added.

In general, the tourism authority reported that over 1.2 million local and foreign tourists visited the country's departments during the holiday period.
