Tourists prefer Costa Rica

Costa Rica is the preferred international tourist destination in Central America, according to the Panorama International Tourism 2014 report released last week by the World Tourism Organization.

More than 2.4 million foreigners visited the country in 2013, an increase of 3.6% over the previous year.

Panama was the second most visited country in the isthmus, but earned more revenue.

Honduras was last in Central America with 943,000 visitors.

International tourism in Central America grew 3.7% during the 2012-2013 season, and generated $9.4 billion in revenue (figures in brackets represent the position of each Central American country, based on the number of visits).
