Officials in El Salvador who implemented a peace agreement between gangs and the government are on trial. The proceedings reverberate far beyond the courtroom.

The evidence about collusion between gangsters and politicians, including the most ardent advocates of "mano dura" (iron-fist), has, if anything, only increased public commotion.
