Two million Central Americans are facing famine

Monday, September 10, 2018

Two million people in Central America are facing famine as a result of prolonged drought that has ruined harvests, the World Food Program reported.

The agency also warned of the possible arrival of the El Niño phenomenon, which could further reduce the food security of the inhabitants in what is known as the regional "Dry Corridor" that passes through Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua.

The months of June and July were drier than normal. As a result substance farmers lost their crops and their families have been unable to meet their basic food needs.
