UN lauds Panama’s Barro Blanco agreement

Friday, August 26, 2016

The United Nations has qualified the agreement between the government and indigenous leaders on the Barro Blanco hydroelectric project in Panama as "an historical reference for the international community."

"It is an example of how states should make indigenous peoples partners in decision-making processes on projects that affect their lives, their cultures, their territories and their rights,” the UN’s Panama office said.
