UN studies telecommunications law in Honduras

Friday, April 26, 2013

Frank La Rue, United Nations Special Rapporteur on freedom of opinion and expression, is in Honduras this week to provide a “technical contribution” to discussions regarding an amendment to the Telecommunications Act.

“I came not to endorse the law or to criticize the law but to provide technical input, and that implies a dialogue with all parties involved,” he told local media.

According to National Human Rights Commissioner Ramón Custodio, the bill contains 14 violations of the Constitution and faces opposition from the Media Association of Honduras, entrepreneurs and other sectors.
