UPS plans major investment in Panama logistics

UPS, the world leader in courier service and logistics in in talks with officials in Panama with a view to a major investment there.

Panama's logistics sector is becoming more attractive to investors, particularly due to the Canal expansion project.

Although the logistics sector in general grew 9 percent last year, the amount of cargo handled in the country's ports grew just 3 percent, half of what the authorities had predicted at the start of 2012. The shortfall was caused by protests over plans to sell land in the Colón Free Trade Zone.
