US aims to lift El Salvador out of economic doldrums

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

The partnership for growth between the United States and El Salvador will be signed this month, Mauricio Funes, the Salvadoran president, confirmed.

The initiative was proposed by Barack Obama during his visit to El Salvador in March. The aim is to improve El Salvador’s economy after 15 years of steady decline.

A technical team from the two countries identified some of the causes. These included the urgent need to reduce crime and boost competitiveness of manufacturing and export industry.
