US and Mexico mull partial border closure

Friday, March 20, 2020

The United States and Mexico are drafting plans to partially close their border, mirroring a shutdown of the Canadian border likely to take effect on Friday, in a bid to halt the spread of coronavirus.

Mike Pompeo, US secretary of state, spoke by telephone with Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico’s foreign minister, to discuss “the importance of creating a uniform North American strategy . . . and to prioritize continuing essential cross-border commerce and trade”, the Financial Times reported.
