US mission seeks $3 million Nicaragua produce trade

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

A US trade mission to Nicaragua last week is looking at the possibility of setting up fruit and vegetable trade worth $3 million from the country to the US.

The delegates on the mission, from companies such as Walmart, Farm Fresh Market, Origene Seeds and Total Quality Logistics, were reported to be impressed with the country's growers, though less so with the infrastructure and high costs of shipping.

The mission showed most interest in products such as okra, watermelon, squash, cassava and a range of Asian vegetables.
