US visitors to Central America surge by 25%

In the first two months of this year, 8.1 million US citizens traveled abroad, a 6 percent increase over the same period in 2011.

Among the biggest increases in foreign travel were to Central America, up 25 percent, and the Caribbean, up 14 percent.

Mexico remains the most popular foreign destination, with 3.3 million US visitors in the first two months of the year.
