Venezuela crisis worries Panama's Colon trade zone

Friday, February 21, 2014

The current crisis and wave of protests in Venezuela has increased concerns about the country's debt with Panama's Colón Free Trade Zone.

The recent protests in Venezuela increase fears that the country's businesses will be unable to payback their debt, said financial analyst Walter Brunetti.

Venezuela accounts for 30 percent of the Colon trade zone's trade, and its debt is estimated at more than $1 billion.
