Walmart July same-store sales dip in Central America

Retailer Walmart de México y Centroamérica said its sales rose 8.4 percent in July from the same month a year earlier to $2.51 billion, with comparable-store sales gains in Mexico but not in Central America.

In Mexican peso terms, Walmex's Central American sales rose 20.9 percent last month. On a constant-currency basis, sales in the region rose 5.8 percent from a year earlier, while same-store sales fell 0.7 percent.

Walmex said it opened 10 new outlets in Mexico and two in Central America last month, plus three more in Mexico so far in August and another in Central America, bringing its number of stores and restaurants in operation to 2,825.
