Workers in Guatemala demand $25 a day

Wednesday, August 29, 2018

Workers' representatives in the minimum wage commission of Guatemala  are seeking $25 a day for next year. The proposal is based on an estimate of $1,000 a month for a basket of basic consumer goods that costs $1,000 a month.

Edith Flores de Molina, a delegate for the employers, says that the proposal does not match the reality of the nation's economy. There is no dialogue, she adds, because the proposal is not being backed by the bosses.

"There has to be a dialogue so that the employers can negotiate on this request," she said.
