Breaking border red tape between Guatemala and Honduras

Tuesday 26 June, 2018

The first year of the customs union between Guatemala and Honduras has not been all sweetness and light, but there certainly has been progress.

Trade between the two countries has risen markedly. Guatemala’s exports rose by 6 percent to almost $1 billion, while those of Honduras surged by 16 percent to close on $400 million.

And time means money in the world of business. Truckers currently spend about an hour in tackling red tape at the border. That process used to take a day and a half.
