Cattle in tow, Panama farmers take to streets against imports

Friday 27 July, 2018

Many were on horseback, others herding their cattle, when farmers in Panama took to the streets of the capital in protest at large-scale government imports of foodstuffs.

A delegation from the demonstrators met with two government ministers but neither side was prepared to give way in the dispute.

The farmers' principal objective is the abolition of Aupsa, the government agency that handles the food imports.
