Colombia passes $84 billion national budget

Thursday 18 October, 2018

Colombia's 2019 national budget was passed by Congress at $84.5 billion, a 9 percent increase on this year.

After a hotly contested debate, the two-month-old government of Iván Duque won over both chambers of Congress.

The $13.5 billion allocated to education set an all-time record. Of that total, Duque had promised $1.3 billion for public universities, somewhat less than what students were demanding in two mass marches in cities throughout the nation over the last week.
