Costa Rican unions issue muted strike warning to Alvarado
Tuesday, June 26, 2018
Unless the Costa Rica government of Carlos Alvarado holds talks on the fiscal problems that it is trying to tackle, it could be faced with an indefinite strike.
That was the warning issued yesterday by the nation’s trade union movement during its first demonstrations against the new taxes being proposed by Alvarado, and his plans to make changes in public-sector jobs.
Yesterday’s protests were muted in San José and other towns and cities, but they showed unity in the campaign to combat Alvarado’s policies.
