Fund lowers forecast for region because of Nicaragua and Panama

Tuesday 24 July, 2018

Because of the uncertainty caused by the crisis in Nicaragua and the labor problems of the construction industry in Panama, the International Monetary Fund has lowered its forecast for growth in Central America.

The new forecast is for 3.3 percent growth, down from the 3.9 percent that was announced in April.

However, the Fund made a very slight increase -- 4.4 percent instead of 4 percent -- in its forecast for next year.
