Notorious Costa Rican bridge finally reopened to traffic

Friday, May 26, 2017

After eight years of ongoing problems including daily traffic jams and road closures in the Costa Rican capital, the Public Works and Transport Ministry on Wednesday reopened passage over the newly repaired Alfredo González Flores bridge, commonly known as “La Platina.”

Over time, taxpayers have ponied up a total of $16.2 million for repairs to the bridge that, according to the ministry, handles some 90,000 vehicles every day.
