Panama is the most globalized

Panama is the most globalized country in Central America and 62nd worldwide, according to the 2017 Globalization Index of the KOF Swiss Economic Institute.

El Salvador, 64th globally, is second in the ishtmus, while Costa Rica is third in 67th place worldwide.

Nicaragua, in 104th position internationally, is the region’s least globalized country.

Netherlands is first overall, while Tanzania is last in a ranking of 207 countries, based on trade openness, foreign investment; telephone traffic, internet usage, international tourism and the proportion of foreign population, among other commercial factors.

In terms of political and dimplomatic criteria, the index considers the number of embassies, participation in international organizations, and treaties with other countries (numbers in brackets indicate each country’s global position).
