$16 billion: Triangle shatters all remittance records

Wednesday, November 7, 2018

The "caravan" of refugees from Central America's Northern Triangle -- Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador -- are in Mexico en route to the border with the United States. However, Guatemalans, Hondurans and Salvadorans who already live in the US are breaking all the records for sending remittances.

This year though October, Guatemala received $7.7 billion in remittances, 10.5 percent more than in the same period of last year. Honduras received $4 billion over the same period.

El Salvador has yet to calculate the figures for October but through September it also received $4 billion.
