$40 million cost of Costa Rica's heavy rains

Monday, October 4, 2010

Heavy rains over Costa Rica have not only damaged farmers’ crops. The impact has been felt in consumers’ pockets.

Producers of fruit and vegetables alone have registered losses of $40 million, though the full cost will not be assessed once the water has abated.

One of the major problems facing the farmers is that few of them are properly insured.
