$5 billion target next year for Guatemalan remittances

Guatemala will receive more than $4.7 billion in remittances this year and $5 billion next, according to predictions from the Central Bank of Guatemala.

The figures contrast with those from Mexico, where it was revealed remittances dropped sharply by 20 percent in September, compared with the same month last year.

Remittances are an important part of both countries' economies. An estimated one in five families in Mexico receive money from at least one relative abroad.
