AFL-CIO backs petition on labor rights in Honduras

Monday, April 2, 2012

This week the US trade union organization the AFL-CIO joined the main Honduran trade unions to file a petition with the US Department of Labor’s Public Office of Trade & Labor Affairs.

The petition alleges that the government of Honduras is not effectively enforcing its own labor laws and is failing to comply with its commitments under Cafta.

According to the complaint, six years after the trade agreement with the United States and Honduras entered into full force workers have seen little meaningful enforcement of their labor rights.
