Airport to boost tourism to Ometepe, Nicaragua

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Tourism industry representatives from Nicaragua expect visitors to the island of Ometepe to grow at a rate of 10 percent each year.

The growth would come as a result of a new airport in the island, which currently receives an average of 50,000 visitors each year.

Seventy percent of the total are from the U.S. and Europe, while the other 30 percent are local visitors, according to data from the tourism authority.
