Alarm as Honduras jobless rate hits more than 50 percent

Unemployment has reached alarming proportions in Honduras. The number of people without jobs has almost doubled in recent years.

Currently 1.6 million Hondurans are without a job, some 53 percent of the economically active population.

More than 600,000 young people aged from 12 to 19 years old neither work nor study.
