América Móvil’s Claro completes the opening of Costa Rica’s cellphone market. Former monopoly faces exodus of clients

The opening of the cellphone market in Costa Rica is complete today with the opening of its doors to the public by Claro.

Mexico's América Móvil, under the Claro brand, joins Spain's Telefónica operating under the brand name Movistar and the former state-owned monopoly ICE and its Kolbi brand, are now in full competition.

It is expected that Movistar and Claro will take away up to one third of ICE's customers.
