Anaya hurls a ‘bomb’ into Mexico’s presidential race

Tuesday, June 19, 2018

With only a few days to go before Mexico’s January 1 presidential election, Ricardo Anaya is in second place according to the polls, well behind Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Now Anaya has hurled a “bomb” into the campaign, by accusing the number two in the race, José Antonio Meade, of getting involved in an alleged corruption case involving notorious Brazilian construction company Odebrecht when he was Energy secretary.

The aim of Anaya’s strategy, analysts say, is to persuade voters to abandon Meade in favor of an anti-Lopez Obrador alliance led by himself.
