Astaldi faces arbitration threat on El Salvador dam

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

The geological problems detected in El Salvador’s El Chaparral hydroelectric project are likely to be resolved by arbitration.

The state-owned Rio Lempa Hydroelectric Executive Commission has called for international exports to apportion responsibility for expenses incurred for a possible redesign or relocation of the dam.

The contract establishes that Italy’s Astaldi is due to complete the dame by the beginning of 2014 at a cost of $220 million.
