ATandT does not need America Movil assets

AT&T does not need to buy assets from America Movil to be successful in Mexico after agreeing to acquire a rival mobile-phone operator in the country, according to Chief Executive Officer Randall Stephenson.

The expansion opportunity is huge in Mexico, particularly since accessing the Internet on mobile phones has not yet taken off there, Stephenson said.

While the assets that America Movil is planning to sell are not crucial, Stephenson said Nextel’s assets in Mexico are interesting and attractive.
