Avianca and Taca set to form region's top airline

Colombia's Avianca and El Salvador's Taca airlines will merge by the end of the month, in an attempt to become Central America's number one airline, Costa rican newspaper La República said.

Avianca has invested some $420 million in new planes this year.

In 2009, Avianca and Taca generated $2.5 billion, while in 2012, they generated $4.3 billion.
