Avianca-Taca and Copa Holdings join Star Alliance
Star Alliance, the world's biggest network of airlines, said that it is adding two new carriers to expand its presence in Latin America.
Star Alliance will add Avianca-Taca, the Colombian flagship airline, and Copa Holdings from Panama. The two airlines compete against each other in domestic flights in Colombia as well as on some international routes.
The new members give the network "a more prominent footprint in Central America, the Caribbean and the northern and western regions of South America, as well as additional direct connections between Latin America and cities in Europe," Star Alliance said.
