Belgians win $54.5 million Panama Canal contract

Belgian company Jan de Nul won the dredging contract for the northern entrance to the Pacific access of the Panama Canal.

The access, which will connect the new locks with Corte Culebra, will require an investment of $54.5 million.

Bids for the tender included those of International Underground of the US ($55.3 million) and the Dutch-Costa Rican consortium BKI-Meco ($71.3 million).
