Big increase in demand for mortgages in Panama

Some 210,000 Panamanians are in the process of getting mortgages, 6.6 percent of the 3.2 million active credit requests currently being processed by the Panamanian Credit Association up to September this year.

The number of mortgage loans went up 3.4 percent up to September, 7,000 more than the same period last year, when they reached 203,000.

The mortgage loan balance also showed an increase of 15.4 percent compared to 2011, up from $8 billion to $9.3 billion in September 2012.
