Bloated state spending drains Costa Rica's economy

The Government of Costa Rica urgently needs to review excessive spending, as the country currently faces an average yearly deficit of $2 billion.

The review would have to reduce spending and aim to use public resources more efficiently.

The excessive spending is the result of an increased number of government officials, luxury pensions, independent institutions and high rents.
