The Costa Rican headquarters of Boston Scientific, a medical equipment manufacturing company, in Alajuela's El Coyol Free Zone, has been awarded the US Building Council's prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDs ) designation.

The plant is the first building in Costa Rica to be so recognized.

At the Boston Scientific plant, which produces medical devices for export, the floors are made of cork, the paint on the walls is free of harmful chemicals and a majority of the building's framework is made from recycled materials.
