Bureaucrats in Costa Rica earn fourfold more than private sector

In Costa Rica, bureaucrats can expect to earn over a working lifetime of 25 years as much as four times their equivalents in the private sector.

The best paying institutions include the state security social institute, La Caja, and the University of Costa Rica.

Each of these institutions is bound by a collective agreement on wages and conditions that would not permit any change.
