Business leaders fear regional social and economic crisis

Monday, October 22, 2018

The exodus of Central Americans who set off in Honduras and are advancing across Mexico with the aim of entering the United States points to the possibility of  social and economic turmoil for the region, said Guy de Pierrefeu, leader of the regional chambers of commerce.

At a meeting over the weekend, the chambers warned that the rule of law is under threat and called for dialogue among parties in conflict.

Meanwhile, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the president-elect of Mexico, aims to call on the governments of the US and Canada to contribute financial resources to further the development of Central American and curb the growing crisis of emigration.
