Cafta only now begins to achieve its full potential, says senior US official

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Now is the moment to release the potential of Cafta, the free trade accord between the United States and Central America, Everett Eissentat, the US deputy representative for the Americas, said in El Salvador.

The US official said that Cafta, which was sealed in 2004, entered into force “by stages”, as each country completed its approval process.
It was relatively recent that Costa Rica approved Cafta, so all the parts of the treaty have only just begun to work simultaneously, Eissentat said.
